Our story so far

So I left my notebook at DAAP and feel pretty lost without it. I had some specific details that I wanted to translate into our project today. My poor notebook.

It’s been a pretty interesting project so far. We started last quarter on the story and spent a good amount of time getting the bits together. We’ve got a fairly intricate story with simple interaction. One problem with our complicated story… it’s really hard to convey to other people. We have been greeted with either blank stares or “ohhhhh hey that’s sweet” followed by blank stares. In a meeting we were told to simplify our story so that it’s easier to understand. Not necessarily to simplify the story itself, but to simplify conveying it.

Working on the game has been rather exciting for me. I’ve never worked on something so large before (and launched to something so small…). We’ve been able to work fast on the development and every time something gets fixed or figured out it’s a small victory. I’m really proud of what we’ve been creating so far. Sure it’s not really designed quite yet, and it’s pretty empty, but it’s still exciting.

Because of our development, I’ve been thinking about what goes into other games. I was watching a game of Half-Life 2 the other day and wondering to myself how the main character (and his physics) was functioning. And then relating that build to other games like Halo or Resident Evil.

Our Schedule

The backbone of any good project. This is our schedule for how we’re going to manage to create this thing.  Take a look if you’re curious, should be fun to go back and check on how accurate it is.

Starting the Second Quarter - Our first Presentation

Starting out the quarter we gave a presentation in front of the class about our concept and basically all of the work we’ve done so far.  Other than feeling a bit rushed due to the number of presentations we had, I’d say it went pretty well!  The only comment was to flesh out our idea a bit.
